Are immigration lawyers worth the money for family class visa’s ?

I am marrying in January and the Canadian Immigration Website has a pretty well defined process on their website, making me believe paying $3k for someone to process paperwork is a bit excessive and unnecessary.
Forgot to mention, I am a Canadian… :)
NO not really,. you can fill the forms in yourself, run around and get the documents yourself and generally redo and redo the forms until you get them right.
They have to be perfect - no errors, no white-out and no crossing outs

I would suggest ONE consultation with an immigration lawyer to make sure that you did not leave any blanks.

For ANY and ALL sections that do not apply to you, you MUST write N/A in that section.

Or CIC may either send the forms back or deny you.

You would only need to use a lawyer if you have a criminal record or something in your back ground that MAY cause problems.

ETA - what JOT says below is true. You really need to have qualifications and work experience to be successful. And unfortunately there is discrimination here in Canada. NOT for the colour of your skin but more for the level of english you have and your accent when you do speak english.

I have known a few people with fluent english but very strong accents to be told - "come back when you speak better english"

In some cases, yes. If you have some issues, then it is better to seek expert advise and hire their service.

BTDT did not use a lawyer except for one consultation to have him check the forms. Landed as PR in 2006

Don’t trust those lawyers, They are cheating. If you want to become a taxi driver or clean hotels you can come to Canada. Don’t think Canada is a paradise.

If you hire one and you need one, hire it. However, educate yourself on the subject. I find myself having to research a lot by myself and telling them the situation and findings. It’s fustrating when you catch them in a mistake, but at least it is prevented.

Yes definitely, as immigration cases are dealt as sensitive ones. A minor mistake may lead for deporting or a severe charge. Consult the expert & experienced lawyers for best results. http://www.doityourselfattorneys.com/immigration_homepage.php
