Internship?

Author: admin
July 30, 2009

I’m currently a sophomore in high school, and I’m really interested in becoming a lawyer after college. I’ve already got my dream schools set, I make all A’s at my high school (one of the top 100 public schools in the U.S.) and am ranked in the top 10% of my class. I was wondering if I could possibly get an internship at a law firm this summer for about a month - I don’t care if it’s filing papers, or whatever. I think the experience would be really good, that’s all. If I emailed local law firms about any possible internship positions (I live in Austin, TX) do you think they might be able to schedule an interview or something, or even respond? If it’s any help, I’m currently 15 (but I dont’ know if age is really a factor). PLEASEEE HELP!!

Unless you have a personal connection, I don’t think many law firms will hire a 15 year old. They have so many applicants who are in college who are willing to file papers. I’ve supervised both college and high school interns and honestly, it is a lot more work to supervise someone who is in high school. To put in all the work for only a month long volunteer isn’t always worth it.

You might want to send a letter to the Austin Bar Association and other nonprofits. They need the help more than a big firm and are more likely to overlook your age. The volunteer legal services of central texas http://www.vlsoct.org/volunteer/ looks like they really want volunteers. Also look at the Texas Advocay Project http://www.women-law.org/program_service.php?pid=9

Talk to your guidence counselor, they can tell you if students have had luck before with specific places.

High school internship?

Absolutely. Get in touch with someone in the firm. If anyone you know, knows someone inside, ask for help. But ultimately: It can be anyone.

Ask for their help and respect their guidance and help. Promptly follow up with them via professional note. Don’t make it too elaborate, but concise, direct, and earnest.

Follow up on the phone a week later at the longest. At the very least, make an appointment, and refuse to take "No" as an answer.

Show up you need to - be happy and positive - realize in the back of your mind they will think you are too young to be taken seriously, so make sure you smile and understand that they are right,m assuming you are like 99% of 15 year old applicants, but explain that you are interested in doing anything - ANYTHING to absorb the ebb and flow of the firm. Your capability and passion should account for something, and you just need a window…Smile and speak confidently and positively. If they say "No", which they will,m make sure that you tell them you appreciate their time, and will follow up with them in a couple of weeks after they’d had time to think about it…..Do it again in 7-8 business days…

Basically, most companies/firms/institutions are inefficient. You will find this to be the case throughout your career. Even if you were overtly qualified, you may have problems getting through the hiring process.

As you are outside the norm of most law firm hires, it is important that you persist through the prejudice of age discrimination.

Best thing to do is recruit an internal advocate, and treat that person with absolute respect and gratitude, so they lobby for you hard. Follow up with everyone you speak with and maintain the assumption that you will be hired in some capacity sooner or later, and understand it may take them longer than logical to see it, but also understand you are exceptional.

Have fun with it - enjoy!

Hi, I’m Jacob and here’s my question with a short story.

I’m 23 year old man and living in Southern California and an independent man and working in a company since I graduated high school and didn’t study for more than 3 years. Since the first year of my senior in high school, I really had a hard time by some reason. So I couldn’t focus on anything and didn’t even think and consider about my future and it was that hard to me on that time (now I’m regretting it). But I graduated anyway with clear more than 160 credits in two years (have been into US for almost 6 years from my Country (S. Korea) with Green Card (soon, will have Citizenship).

I actually have no good GPA also (about 3.0) Also, I have not taken any test for University (SAT, ACT…) but if it helps, I could give many letters of succeed peoples’ recommendations (Doctors, professors, C.E.O.s, lawyers, and more).

So, if any of you can tell and suggest me about the way to go to the UT-Austin, please give me an idea.

If anything’s necessary in my reach, I will do it. I know it’d be very sound weird to you that I’m thinking about the other place to star-a-new, but I NEED it and UT is the place I think I can do it.

Thanks.

ps. If you want to ask anything for your help, feel free to ask me anything!!! I’m fully opened!!
And i’m sorry for you readers, my English isn’t good ;-(

You need to contact the admissions office. They can help you with all you need.

thanks for your answers, so, the necessary is SAT. right? I heard that I could take SAT even though I graduated. I will study for it and get the good score. would it be a help??

Sorry but it doesn’t look good for you. UT had 30,000 applicants for a 6000 spots in their freshman class for this fall.

Start with taking the SAT. Submit the scores to UT. Then depending on what scores you made, take an SAT intensive study class to improve them to near perfect.

You might want to try going to one of the other schools in the UT system like UT-Dallas or UT-San Antonio, then transferring to UT Austin.

My fiance was wrongly accused of family violence by his 30 yr old son… who was living with us. He was arrested and charged with aggravated assult. He has a court date in september, and we are in need of some legal advice, and legal aid. We cannot afford the expence of a lawyer, as we are in debt because of his son (not paying rent, bills etc. ) We are in Georgetown, just outside of Austin Tx.

I know my fiance is innocent, as I have witnesed the entire "incident". And the only reason his son pressed charges, is out of retaliation. His father kicked him off the computer, and the son started coming after the father, instigating the whole thing. There were NO punches. Just wresteling. His son was kicking, clawing, and biting. But he was the one who ended up with a few bruises becasue the wrestling ended up on the floor.

If my fiance goes to jail, thre is a very good chance we will lose our home. There is no way I can afford the upkeep by myself.
Thanks in advance!!

Michael Graham ran this poll today. I’d like to continue on with it. Please add your own.

Got a great email from listener Ken yesterday after the Obama/Cheney speech-off:

Michael,

Obama is Dr. Phil, and Dick Cheney is Batman. Batman didn’t care if anyone liked him.

The juxtaposition of President Obama and Vice-President Cheney is striking, and my listeners weren’t the only people to notice. Here’s Bill Kristol:

Obama’s is the speech of a young senator who was once a part-time law professor–platitudinous and preachy, vague and pseudo-thoughtful in an abstract kind of way… Cheney’s is the speech of a grownup, of a chief executive, of a statesman.

John Feehery at The Hill writes "Where Dick Cheney is approaching this conflict as a Defense secretary, Mr. Obama is approaching it as a law professor."

Personally, I think Barack Obama is your therapist ("How does that make you feel?") while Cheney is your surgeon ("I’m cutting out your lungs at noon!")

Or maybe it’s Obama’s Pete Carroll vs. Cheney’s Bill Belichick?

Here’s your mission: Post your best Obama is __________, Cheney is _________ analogy below. At the end of today’s show, my "That’s A Wrap" panelists and I will pick the best one. The winner will get dinner for two at Ken’s Steakhouse, a copy of my book REDNECK NATION, and some other WTKK swag.
May the best man/woman/T operator win!

Obama - worthless…Cheney - pricless

Obamma is Mickey Mouse, Cheney is Walt Disney.

Obama is the polite guy that doesn’t offend anyone while Cheney is the blunt speaker that doesn’t care if you don’t like the truth of the situation. (Sugarcoating is for dealing with children, people! I prefer to be spoken to like an adult.)

Obama is Human Resource Manager: Cheney is Chief Operations Officer.

Obama is Stimpy, Cheney is Ren.

Obama is the Coyote,…Cheney is Roadrunner!

Obama is the fat opera singer, and Cheney is Bugs Bunny, from "What’s Opera Doc".

OBAMA IS STIMPY CHENEY IS REN ;)

Obama is Harriet Myers, Cheney is Samuel Alito.

Obama is the thunder, Cheney is the lightening.

Barack Obama is David Banner, Dick Cheney is The Incredible Hulk.
Banner; weak, vulnerable, confused, inexperienced. The Hulk; Strong, Focused, Angry, Confident.

Obama is playing in the sandbox and Cheney is playing dodge ball.

Obama is Gilligan , Cheney is The Professor

Barack Obama = Tom Shattuck while texting…"Trust Me, I know what I’m doing"
Dick Cheney = Michael Graham…"Are you crazy?? You’re going to get someone killed!"

Obama is Harriet Myers, Cheney is Samuel Alito.

Obama is friend on hunting trip, Cheney is friend who shots in wrong direction

Obama is Homer, Cheney is Flanders

Obama is Harriet Myers, Cheney is Samuel Alito.

Obama is Kris Allen. Cheney is Adam Lambert.

Cheney is Deer Hunter
Obama is Bambi

Obama is Harriet Myers, Cheney is Samuel Alito.

Obama is a show pony, Cheney is a mustang

obama is mr rogers and cheney is the old muppet in the balcony

Obama is the Enabler and Cheney is the Terminator

Obama is a pussy cat, Cheney is a lion

Here’s mine: Obama is the Mad Hatter and Cheney is the Red Queen (off with his head!)

From "A Few Good Men"

Obama= Lt. Daniel Alistair Kaffee(Tom Cruise)-the smart ass lawyer
Cheney= Col. Nathan R. Jessep (Jack Nicholson)-gritty, in your face
Obama is a wine cooler and Cheney is a shot of Irish Whiskey!
Obama is Jim Braude, Cheney is Michael Graham.
Obama says what "feels good", Cheney lives in reality and speaks the truth

Obama is Bush, Cheney is Cheney

Obama is a wine cooler and Cheney is a shot of Irish Whiskey!

Obama is Olive Oil and Cheney is Popeye!

The world is made of mice and men - Obama is the mouse, Cheney is The Man! ….. And in matters of national security (and any other situations), I definitely trust the wisdom of Dick Cheney.

Obama is Barney, Cheney is Yosemite Sam

Obama is Bailey’s Irish Cream liqueur on the rocks, Cheney is Glenlivet Scotch Whiskey straight up.

Cheney is Frank Sinatra…Obama is Boy George

Obama is Gas Man, Cheney is Graniteman.

I have a few…

Obama is "Austin Powers" … Cheney is "James Bond"

Obama is "Sydney Bristol (Alias)" … Cheney is "Nikita (La Femme Nikita)"

Obama is "Steve Austin ($6 Million Dollar Man)" …. Cheney is "Superman"

Is Joe Biden the joker?
No, just a joke….
Nobody is laughing though.
Barack Obama is the referee.

Dick Cheney is the quarterback.
Obama is france, Cheney is the 101st airborn in WW2

Obama: Megatron…Cheney: Optimus Prime

obama - Josef Goebbels
Cheney - Winston Churchill

ok now, this may sound funny. but , i feel i need to be famous. ever since i was young people asked me what do you wanna do with your life? and i always said i dunno. while people were saying doctors, lawyers, nurses, vets, etc. me i wanna become an actor. im 16 years old. im 5′11, im fit, i have some good looks, i can act. i think i have what it takes. now im NOT trying to be cocky im sorry . im not, but i know they want that so i think i can do it. and me and my friend , people love us, we make the laugh we have a good time. were cool people to chill with. well we have this idea for a tv show. and we wanna start shooting it, gettin the word out, and we wanna do audtions in hollywood. dallas. austin, NYC etc. well this whole year planning it, tell me if you think this is crazy? every time every day mostly i have a sign. i barely watch tv. and when i do it says hollywood on a commercial or ‘get famous’ ‘get everything you wanted, put your mind to it’ and i was walkin to school and on the sidewalk it said ‘los angeles’ and in my spanish class today i flipped the page to our work and it said famous citys. and hollywood as well. and also my teacher said i look like i would be famous.

i think its crazy and i feel its destined to be famous. i really want this. but is it possible to try hard and get to it.

what are the steps in making a tv show.

steps to getting famous?

If you’re "destined" to be famous, don’t think too much of it. If you really are meant to be famous, it’ll happen by doing whatever you do. And sorry, but a lot of the things you mentioned were very coincidental. If you "have what it takes" than go audition for some small things. Everyone starts out somewhere.

So I applied for a loan and was called by Brookdale Lending Group that I was approved for up to 10,000 dollars. He (David Austin) told me due to my credit rating that I only had the option of collateral. I decided to go with 7,000 dollars and I was told the interest would be 6% and it would be a 36 month term and my monthly payments would be 212.76. Due to the fact I am doing collateral I must first send them 4 months payments which was a total of 851 dollars which should be sent by money gram to Tina R. Herring in Canada. After I sent it and called him and gave him the reference number he informed me that I will receive my deposit into my account within 24 hours, along with the fee I paid to send the moneygram. The following day when I didn’t receive it, I called. Wasn’t able to talk to the same person so i spoke with the actually person that transfers the loans, (Frank Ryan) and he informed me that my lender ran a re-assessment on my account and is requiring an additional 3 months coverage which would be 638 dollars. I was upset at this point and ask numerous of questions, he than became angry and began speaking very rudely. I ask him to explain to me what everything meant. Once that was done I sent over the 638 dollars that was requested it was sent to Gloria P Jeffries and she is also located in Canada. After issuing him the reference number again he assured me there would be no more assessments on my account and I should receive the funds within the next 2 hours. That was at 1pm today. I have not yet to receive the funds. I have been calling since 3:30pm and the customer service would go to voice mail (which was weird) and when I did talk to someone they would say that both men were either on lunch or in a meeting. They only open Mon-Friday and they close at 7pm. I received documentation which was the loan agreement with all information on it. It seem legit and it was signed by the President/Chairman Samuel Kacy. I just want to know has anyone every heard of this company? If not what exactly should I do to sue or get my money back? Is there a website where I look on? I looked on ripoff reports.com and better business bureau and they both brought no results. I never had to contact a lawyer before or take any legal actions. Someone please help me! And please no smart comments!

Ok no smart comments but in this day and age if you don’t want to be scammed you should double check who you are dealing with.

To do that you go to the American Bankers Association and check them out, it’s very easy and free. Also the BBB as you mention, your mistake is you should check BEFORE sending the money, not after.

Having said all the above, when you get a loan you are never required to send money, let alone doing it with money gram to a private individual in a different country.

These people are legitimate lenders http://www.debtreliefprogram.esuperfind.com as you can see at

There is no Money in the bank matches because I don’t think it’s a good Idea, even though some of you might.

Now there it is. Im saying it again, please no rude answers. However you could say if you didn’t like it or liked it. You could say if it’s good or not.

I would really like to know what you think of my Wrestlemania 25 event.

Stone Cold Steve Austin might return to wrestle again that’s why I put him in against a wrestler I hate, John Bradshaw Layfield. He’s crap.

So can you please give you opinions? Or even better, write your own event when you answer the question.

I think its pretty good. If the fueds lead up to the ppv well then that could be a great wrestlemania. I also love the ending but i think austin should have a more famous opponent like the rock or hbk. Other then that its really good. You should add in some backstage stuff too.

Good job.
Lol wouldnt it b wierd if this all actually happened. CREAPY.
