I am in need of a trial lawyer as a result of a court case with a multi million dollar CEO who fired an entire staff, and did not employ ethics, had no policy and procedure manual, and slept with my former girlfriend.

Internship?

Author: admin
July 30, 2009

I’m currently a sophomore in high school, and I’m really interested in becoming a lawyer after college. I’ve already got my dream schools set, I make all A’s at my high school (one of the top 100 public schools in the U.S.) and am ranked in the top 10% of my class. I was wondering if I could possibly get an internship at a law firm this summer for about a month - I don’t care if it’s filing papers, or whatever. I think the experience would be really good, that’s all. If I emailed local law firms about any possible internship positions (I live in Austin, TX) do you think they might be able to schedule an interview or something, or even respond? If it’s any help, I’m currently 15 (but I dont’ know if age is really a factor). PLEASEEE HELP!!

Unless you have a personal connection, I don’t think many law firms will hire a 15 year old. They have so many applicants who are in college who are willing to file papers. I’ve supervised both college and high school interns and honestly, it is a lot more work to supervise someone who is in high school. To put in all the work for only a month long volunteer isn’t always worth it.

You might want to send a letter to the Austin Bar Association and other nonprofits. They need the help more than a big firm and are more likely to overlook your age. The volunteer legal services of central texas http://www.vlsoct.org/volunteer/ looks like they really want volunteers. Also look at the Texas Advocay Project http://www.women-law.org/program_service.php?pid=9

Talk to your guidence counselor, they can tell you if students have had luck before with specific places.

Bad City (DVD)

MOVIE DVD - Lance Reddick, Mike McGlone, Nutsa Kukhianidze and Austin Pendleton co-star in the action-riddled urban thriller Bad City, which made its (extremely limited) U.S. theatrical debut in February 2006. The complex premise involves a murder investigation that unfolds after two seemingly unrelated society women turn up dismembered: a mafioso’s (Pendleton) mistress, and the wife of a state attorney candidate played by Reddick (of television’s Oz). Local authorities infer that a psychopathic serial killer holds responsibility, until leads point, oddly, to two individuals - a unique figure in each case. Kukhianidze portrays a Polish emigrant who moves into a hotel and falls under the thumb of Pendleton’s predatory crime boss, Julian Healy. Newcomer Bruce Terris directs, from a mazelike script he co-authored with Rick Rose. Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide - Bad City (DVD)

Do you know how many billions of dollars these ambulance chasers bleed out of the health care system every year?

Why do Democrats have such a warm spot in their hearts for these leeches when they at the same time claim they want health care reform?

And repubs don’t "lawyer up" when you look at them cross eyed? I read here daily how "you guys" are going to sue obama and get him to release his "birth certificate" and college transcripts. Just another blow hard.

we’re all the way in nyc and my mom got transferred to etowah county detention center in alabama we want a good lawyer over there we (my uncle and i) will be catching a flight promptly but please recommend me good immigration lawyers !

and if its not too much to ask and someone say a prayer out to mom so that everything we’ll be okay, shes basically the only thing i got in this world. :"(

My heart goes out to you. Right now my cousin is in the same predicament. We live on Long Island and my cousin is on her way to either Alabama or Miami….they aren’t even telling us which.

As for people who post like the despicable person before me, who gave you the right to talk like that? Were your ancestors Native American? No, of course not…someone in your family came here and was lucky enough to come at a time when it was easy. Her mother is probably a better American than you are. She doesn’t sit around judging people for trying to make a better life for themselves.

Not Proud to be American when people are treated like dirt

High school internship?

I’m currently a sophomore in high school, and I’m really interested in becoming a lawyer after college. I’ve already got my dream schools set, I make all A’s at my high school (one of the top 100 public schools in the U.S.) and am ranked in the top 10% of my class. I was wondering if I could possibly get an internship at a law firm this summer for about a month - I don’t care if it’s filing papers, or whatever. If it’s any help, I’m currently 15 (but I dont’ know if age is really a factor). PLEASEEE HELP!!

Absolutely. Get in touch with someone in the firm. If anyone you know, knows someone inside, ask for help. But ultimately: It can be anyone.

Ask for their help and respect their guidance and help. Promptly follow up with them via professional note. Don’t make it too elaborate, but concise, direct, and earnest.

Follow up on the phone a week later at the longest. At the very least, make an appointment, and refuse to take "No" as an answer.

Show up you need to - be happy and positive - realize in the back of your mind they will think you are too young to be taken seriously, so make sure you smile and understand that they are right,m assuming you are like 99% of 15 year old applicants, but explain that you are interested in doing anything - ANYTHING to absorb the ebb and flow of the firm. Your capability and passion should account for something, and you just need a window…Smile and speak confidently and positively. If they say "No", which they will,m make sure that you tell them you appreciate their time, and will follow up with them in a couple of weeks after they’d had time to think about it…..Do it again in 7-8 business days…

Basically, most companies/firms/institutions are inefficient. You will find this to be the case throughout your career. Even if you were overtly qualified, you may have problems getting through the hiring process.

As you are outside the norm of most law firm hires, it is important that you persist through the prejudice of age discrimination.

Best thing to do is recruit an internal advocate, and treat that person with absolute respect and gratitude, so they lobby for you hard. Follow up with everyone you speak with and maintain the assumption that you will be hired in some capacity sooner or later, and understand it may take them longer than logical to see it, but also understand you are exceptional.

Have fun with it - enjoy!

If he was really serious about lowering medical costs how can he honestly not start right there to limit the ambulance chasers that drive up all of our costs?

Most politicians are lawyers so don’t expect them to help us out, why would they vote to kill the goose that lays golden eggs?
Adam B: Why dont you include the cost of malpractice insurance in your little insulting answer?

Litigation costs are about $10 billion out of the $2.9 trillion dollars we spent on health care last year. You quote no figures because if you did it would be obvious how ridiculous your argument is.

You seem to be arguing that doctors who commit malpractice shouldn’t be held to account. Or that hospitals that are negligent shouldn’t be made to pay those they injure. Ditto drug companies. If that’s your position, then you deserve no support. Hopefully everyone will make fun of you, and your own family will turn away from you in disgust.

Edit: So the cost of malpractice insurance is … the fault of lawyers? Isn’t it insurance companies that set those rates?

You are arguing that people who are injured not be compensated for their injuries. There are almost never punitive damages in medical malpractice cases - people are compensated for their injuries, lost wages, and the cost of their ongoing treatment and rehab costs. If someone is in pain for the rest of his life, you are arguing that he should not be compensated for it. Your faux hurt feelings and petty insults are not adequate cover this simple fact.
